I just caught the latest issue of our friend James Altucher’s new newsletter, The Altucher Report. I had to share an excerpt. This is unlike any newsletter I’ve ever read before.

Tucked in between fascinating insight into how to live a healthier, happier life was an unconventional way to earn a safe 10-15% income stream.

I can’t share James’ secret method for safe retirement income here, but I can show you his proven, scientific way to increase your longevity…

From James Altucher, editor, The Altucher Report: In my March newsletter, I mentioned the woman who lived to over 100 who spent much of her day laughing. But is this a fluke, or can laughter really be associated with health and well-being?

I was talking to Dan Buettner, author of The Blue Zones, Second Edition: 9 Lessons for Living Longer From the People Who’ve Lived the Longest. My podcast with him will come out April 7, in conjunction with his new book.

Dan spent 10 years studying the areas of the world where the most disability-free centenarians live. Places like Okinawa, parts of Greece, one town in California, and five or six others.

He showed me one example of a guy who was 97 years old. This 97-year-old man wanted to build a fence.

The contractor wanted to charge him $6,000. So the 97-year-old guy said, “Forget it. I will build it myself.”

So for four solid days from morning to night, he dug up the ground, carried bricks, hammered the fence together, etc., and then on the fourth day… he ended up in the ER of the local hospital.

As the doctor! He was performing his 12,000th open-heart surgery.

I’m trying to convince Dan now to do a newsletter and maybe share it at a discount to my subscribers. He had so much interesting information. But I was surprised he never mentioned laughter. So I asked him.

He told me about a group in Okinawa that has a tradition of getting together every morning and laughing. One person starts and then it becomes contagious until everyone is laughing. Average age of the people in the group: over 100.

So I did a little more research. I am such a fan of comedy and watch it every day since I know deep in my heart there are benefits to laughter, regardless of any scientific studies.

That said, I found plenty of scientific studies that show laughter can increase life expectancy as well as quality of life.
