From Mark Ford, founder, Palm Beach Research Group: Besides discovering the amount of calories in steak and peanut butter (crazy high!), the Lose It! weight-loss app has shown me why a “free” day doesn’t work…
You know what I’m talking about. You keep a strict diet Monday through Friday. Then on Saturday or Sunday (or both), you’re “free” to eat whatever you want.
I tried that off and on for years, and it never worked. Now I know why.
Let’s say your caloric maximum is 1,750 calories, like mine. And let’s say you stay under that limit every day for five—or even six—days. Since you were “good” almost all week, you decide to reward yourself with a free day.
On that free day, you have waffles for breakfast, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch, and fettuccini Alfredo for dinner. Plus ice cream while watching TV just before midnight.
It’s a lot, you know, but it’s just one day. What harm can it do?
I discovered when I eat like that, I can easily consume 6,000 to 8,000 calories in a single day. (Three thousand calories equals a pound. So I can be “good” six days and “free” one day… and end up gaining two pounds for the week!)
The secret to taking off weight—and keeping it off—is to NEVER diet. With Lose It!, I’m conscious of how many calories I’m taking in, yet I never feel deprived. You may want to try it, too…
