For the first time ever, more humans are obese than malnourished…

Bloomberg reports the number of obese adults has exploded from 105 million in 1975 to 640 million today. One-fifth of Earth’s adults will be obese within a decade.

Obesity presents an array of serious challenges for humanity. But this struggle wouldn’t exist without overwhelming food abundance. Companies like agricultural additive producer Ingredion (INGR) made it possible.

It’s why Tom recommended the stock in the June 2013 issue of The Palm Beach Letter:

When you add agricultural additives to other products, they change the flavor and texture of those products. They extend shelf life. They provide gluten-free options for people with allergies. They keep oils from separating out of lotions. They help ink stick to paper. They even help save lives when IVs rehydrate people.

If our research is correct, this company will grow its earnings at up to 10% per year for the next five years… a 60% increase in profits. Assuming valuations don’t change, we’ll be up 60% five years from now.

Ingredion’s played a large part in overcoming world hunger. It’s also beaten Tom’s estimated returns (in about half his estimated time). PBL subscribers who bought Ingredion are up 71.29% since Tom’s recommendation.

Bottom line: If you bought Ingredion, continue to hold… and keep collecting its rising stream of dividends. The agricultural additive business shows no signs of slowing down.
