Your mouth may be the key to sustaining a healthy brain…

A King’s College (London) study reveals a link between gum disease and Alzheimer’s. Bad gums resulted in a six-fold increase in the rate of cognitive decline among dementia patients.

The good news is healthier oral hygiene habits may also help combat cognitive decline.

Professor Clive Holmes notes:

If there is a direct relationship between periodontitis and cognitive decline, as this current study suggests, then treatment of gum disease might be a possible treatment option for Alzheimer’s.

Even if you don’t buy the brain-gumline link, do whatever it takes to maintain healthy teeth and gums. Bleeding gums have also been linked to cardiovascular disease and heightened inflammation throughout the body.
